Church of the Holy Sepulchre

The church in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. It contains the two holiest sites in Christianity: Golgotha, the site where Jesus was crucified, and Jesus's tomb, where he was buried and resurrected.

This place is the heart of the holy city of Jerusalem. Located on a small narrow square, stuck between the houses of the old town, and at the foot of a minaret, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher stands up at the end of Via Dolorosa.

All the main branches of Christianity are represented in this church. Control of the church is shared among several Christian denominations and secular entities in complicated arrangements essentially unchanged for over 200 years, and some for much longer.
