Galilee is a region located in northern Israel and southern Lebanon. Galilee traditionally refers to the mountainous part, divided into Upper and Lower Galilee.
Lower Galilee has long served as a corridor for caravan routes to Damascus and Mesopotamia.
It is for this reason that the territory of Galilee saw the flowering of early urban civilization. When the Jews conquered the country of Canaan, Galilee was divided among the tribes of the children of Israel.
The Jews have never left the land since then. It is the site of great dramatic events involving Assyria, the Roman Empire, kings and Caesars.
