Jordan River

Jordan River

A river in the Middle East, considered one of the most sacred rivers in the world and the largest river throughout the Holy Land..
The Jordan River starts at the foot of Mount Hermon, flows through the Sea of Galilee, and flows into the Dead Sea. In its lower reaches it is the natural boundary between Israel and Jordan.

The Jordan is mentioned many times in the Bible. According to the Old Testament, Joshua led the Hebrew people across the Jordan River by dry water, which miraculously parted, thus ending their forty year sojourn in the desert. Later, according to the Gospel, Jesus Christ was baptized in the waters of the river.
