Mount of the Beatitudes

The Mount of the Beatitudes is the mountain on which, according to Christian tradition, Jesus Christ gave his Sermon on the Mount, in which each part began with the word «Blessed».

In the 1930s Franciscan monks conducted archaeological excavations on the Mount of the Beatitudes. The remains of a small, one-nave church from the late 4th century, decorated with mosaics, were discovered. The modern church ("The Beatitude Monastery") was built in 1937. The Mount of the Beatitudes welcomes visitors with a marvelous garden and a wonderful view of the Sea of Galilee.
