Yardenit

The place where the Jordan River flows out of the Sea of Galilee is the place of baptism - Yardenit, which the state of Israel has specially set aside for pilgrims.

Yardenite is the site of the outlet south of the city of Tiberias, on the lower reaches, of the Jordan River from the Sea of Galilee, the site of a symbolic baptismal rite for Orthodox and Catholics. The exact place where Jesus was baptized by St. John the Baptist is nearby, but in the border area between Israel and Jordan, so in 1981 Yardenit was chosen by the government of Israel as a ceremonial site. All facilities are provided here for pilgrims who come for baptismal ceremonies.
